Previous Year Cut-Off (Trend-Based)

The qualifying percentages have been kept constant by AIIMS across recent cycles:

Category Stage I Qualifying Percentile Stage II Qualifying %
UR/EWS 50 50%
OBC 45 45%
SC/ST 40 40%
PwBD Additional 5 percentile/% relaxation Additional 5% relaxation

Based on past cycles (NORCET 9 and NORCET 10), it has been observed that around 46,000–80,000+ candidates typically appear, out of which approximately 13,000–14,000 are shortlisted for Document Verification after Stage II, depending on vacancy count. Actual scoring cut-offs (in marks) vary year to year based on paper difficulty and competition, so the fixed qualifying percentages above remain the most reliable benchmark rather than absolute mark figures, which are being released only after each stage’s result.

Previous Year Question Papers

Solving previous NORCET papers (NORCET 8, 9, and 10) is being strongly recommended, since the paper pattern, question difficulty, and nursing-subject weightage have remained fairly consistent across recent cycles. Benefits include familiarity with the case-scenario-based question style used in Mains, better time management practice for the 180-minute Stage II window, and identification of high-weightage nursing topics such as Medical-Surgical and Obstetric Nursing. It is advised that candidates attempt previous papers in a timed setting to simulate real exam conditions before attempting fresh mock tests.

AIIMS NORCET Previous Year Vacancy Trends

Cycle Approx. Vacancies
NORCET 8 (2025) ~2,900
NORCET 9 (2025) ~1,300
NORCET 10 (2026) ~2,300
NORCET 11 (2026) 2,218

Figures for earlier cycles are being cited as approximate, since final vacancy numbers were revised at different stages in each cycle.

Posting & Job Profile

Selected Nursing Officers are being posted across general wards, ICUs, OTs, emergency departments, and specialized units depending on institute requirement. Work typically involves patient care, medication administration, clinical documentation, and coordination with medical teams. Duties are generally organized in rotational shifts (morning, evening, night), including duties on weekends and holidays as per hospital roster requirements. Promotions are governed by AIIMS/Central Government seniority-based promotion norms, and postings can be at any of the 27 participating institutes based on vacancy and choice-filling during document verification.

AIIMS Nursing Officer Career Growth

Nursing Officer → Senior Nursing Officer → Nursing Superintendent → Chief Nursing Officer

Promotions along this hierarchy are generally governed by years of service, performance appraisals, and availability of vacant posts at each level, in line with Central Government promotion policy applicable to AIIMS employees.

Preparation Tips

  • Books: Standard nursing textbooks are being prioritized over generic guides, since NORCET Mains is heavily clinical/case-based.
  • Mock Tests: Full-length, timed mock tests are recommended at least 3–4 times a week closer to the exam.
  • Previous Papers: NORCET 8, 9, and 10 papers should be solved to understand recurring topic patterns.
  • Revision Strategy: High-weightage subjects (Medical-Surgical, Obstetric, Pediatric Nursing) should be revised on a rotational weekly basis rather than left for the end.
  • Daily Study Plan: A minimum of 6–8 hours daily is generally recommended in the final two months, split between subject reading, MCQ practice, and error analysis.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2026: Exam Date, Admit Card, Selection Process, CBAT, Salary & Complete Recruitment Guide

0

Latest Update – RRB ALP CBT 2 Examination is being conducted on 28 July 2026 in two shifts (Shift 1 reporting: 7:30 AM; Shift 2 reporting: 12:30 PM). Admit cards have already been released on the respective regional RRB websites. The City Intimation Slip was released around 18 July 2026, and admit cards followed around 24 July 2026. Candidates should download both documents only from their regional RRB’s official website.

The RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2026 is being held today, 28th July 2026, across multiple exam centres in India, in two shifts. This is the second stage of the Assistant Loco Pilot recruitment under CEN 01/2025, and it is one of the most decisive stages of the entire selection process.

Admit cards for RRB ALP CBT 2 have already been released on the respective regional RRB websites. Candidates appearing today must carry their admit card (printed copy) along with a valid original photo ID proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, or similar) to the exam centre – entry will not be permitted without these documents.

CBT 2 is a critical filter in the RRB ALP recruitment process because the marks scored here (specifically in Part A) directly feed into the final merit list. Once CBT 2 concludes, candidates who clear it will move to the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination, before a final merit list is prepared for appointment.

This guide covers everything about RRB ALP CBT 2 2026 — the exam pattern, selection process, syllabus, salary, CBAT, medical standards, expected post-CBT 2 timeline, and answers to the most common candidate questions.

What is RRB ALP?

Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) is a technical, safety-critical post under Indian Railways. An ALP works directly alongside the Loco Pilot in operating and monitoring locomotives, and is responsible for:

  • Assisting the Loco Pilot in the safe operation of trains
  • Monitoring signals and ensuring compliance with railway safety protocols
  • Supporting locomotive operations during the journey
  • Basic maintenance support and identifying technical faults in the locomotive
  • Ensuring passenger and cargo safety through vigilant, disciplined duty

It is considered an entry point into the Loco Running cadre, with a defined path of promotion to Loco Pilot (Goods), Loco Pilot (Passenger), and eventually Loco Pilot (Mail/Express).

RRB ALP Selection Process

The RRB ALP 2025-26 recruitment follows a five-stage selection process:

Stage 1: CBT 1

  • Purpose: Screening test to shortlist candidates for CBT 2
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science (General Awareness has reportedly been removed as per the latest pattern — verify with official notice)
  • Questions/Marks: 75 questions for 75 marks
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Qualifying in nature — CBT 1 marks are NOT counted in the final merit list

Stage 2: CBT 2 (Current Stage)

  • Held on 28 July 2026
  • Consists of Part A and Part B
  • Part A marks are used for merit list preparation; Part B is qualifying in nature
  • This is the current, most important stage under discussion in this article

Stage 3: CBAT (Computer-Based Aptitude Test)

  • Conducted only for ALP posts (not for Technician posts under the same CEN)
  • No negative marking
  • Candidates must secure a minimum qualifying score of 42 marks (T-score) in each test battery
  • Tests psychological aptitude – concentration, alertness, observation, and decision-making ability relevant to the ALP role
  • No category-wise relaxation is given at this stage

Stage 4: Document Verification (DV)

  • Candidates shortlisted after CBAT are called for verification of educational certificates, category certificates, identity proof, and other original documents

Stage 5: Medical Examination

  • Conducted as per Railway medical standards applicable to Loco Running Staff
  • Includes vision standards, physical fitness, and overall medical fitness checks

CBT 1 Explained

  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science
  • Exam Pattern: 75 questions, 75 marks, 60 minutes
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for every wrong answer
  • Difficulty Level: Moderate; based on 10th standard CBSE-level syllabus
  • Cutoff: Category and normalisation-based; varies by RRB zone (check official RRB ALP CBT 1 result notice for exact cutoffs)
  • Purpose: Purely a screening exam – CBT 1 marks do not carry forward to the final merit list

CBT 2 Explained

RRB ALP CBT 2 is divided into two parts:

Part A

  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering
  • Questions: 100
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Marks from Part A are used in the final merit list

Part B

  • Subject: Trade/Technical knowledge relevant to the candidate’s engineering discipline
  • Questions: 75
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Qualifying in nature – candidates must score a minimum of 35% to qualify (some sources cite category-wise minimums of 40% UR / 30% OBC / 30% SC / 25% ST – please verify against the official notice, as these figures differ across sources)
  • Part B marks do not count toward the final merit list, but qualifying is mandatory to proceed

Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each incorrect answer in both Part A and Part B

Importance: CBT 2 Part A is the single biggest determinant of a candidate’s final merit ranking alongside CBAT.

What Happens After CBT 2?

Once the RRB ALP CBT 2 exam concludes today, the process moves forward as follows:

  1. Result Declaration – RRB will release the CBT 2 result/scorecard on the official regional websites (date to be announced)
  2. CBAT – Candidates equal to approximately 8 times the number of ALP vacancies per category, shortlisted based on CBT 2 Part A performance, will be called for CBAT
  3. Document Verification – Candidates who clear CBAT proceed to DV
  4. Medical Examination – DV-cleared candidates undergo the prescribed railway medical test
  5. Final Merit List – Prepared based on CBT 2 Part A and CBAT performance
  6. Appointment – Provisional appointment letters issued to selected candidates
  7. Training – Selected candidates undergo mandatory training as per Railway norms
  8. Joining – Candidates join their allotted railway zone/division as Assistant Loco Pilot
